Spirit Energy appoints new Technical Services and HSES Director

Energy transition company Spirit Energy has appointed Scott McGinigal as Technical Services and HSES Director as the company looks to new horizons amidst the energy transition.

A leader in his field Scott joins Spirit Energy from national oil company; CNOOC where he held various leadership roles including VP Major Projects, VP Business Services and GM Technical Services.

Scott joins Spirit Energy at a pivotal time for the company as it transitions along with the industry looking at the future of oil and gas and positioning itself ready for a net zero future.

Technical Services and HSES Director, Scott McGinigal

Last month, Spirit Energy, alongside its majority shareholder Centrica Plc, and Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM) were granted a carbon storage licence by the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) for the repurposing of its North and South Morecambe gas fields. To be known as the MNZ (Morecambe Net Zero) Cluster, it will repurpose the depleting gas fields into a world-leading carbon storage facility, capable of storing one gigaton of emissions to provide a long-term decarbonisation solution for the UK’s carbon-intensive industries.

Scott’s new role will oversee multiple areas of the business including HSES, Projects, Wells, Engineering, Supply Chain and Decommissioning; where Spirit is experiencing its busiest year to date with offshore campaigns across the CNC, SNS and East Irish Sea working in P&A and safe infrastructure removal.

Commenting on his appointment, Scott said: “Spirit Energy is recognised for its inclusive and innovative culture and the Company is actively progressing its transition to Net Zero. I am delighted to be joining a team with a proven track record in decommissioning, substantial gas assets and a strategically significant and world-class carbon store in Morecambe.”

Spirit Energy, CEO, Neil McCulloch, said: “Scott is a great addition to the Spirit Energy team and Executive Committee, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our business. Scott possesses the leadership qualities we require to be an exemplar in the industry as we transition and move towards a Net Zero future.”
