Scottish Rugby host Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup in Aberdeen

Scottish Rugby proudly hosted the Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup Finals on Sunday 24 March in the Granite City of Aberdeen, which saw more than 600 young players from 24 Teams competing.

The competition, now in its 3rd decade of existence, saw teams competing in a series of regional leagues, and then Cup, Shield and Bowl knockout rounds, culminating in 16 boys’ and eight girls’ teams reaching the inclusive Final stages of the Competition.

Taking place at Robert Gordon’s College Countesswells Sports Field, the Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup is the largest regional rugby Finals Day in the country and celebrates Girls and Boys rugby across the Caledonia Region (Caledonian North and Caledonia Midlands) by providing a positive and competitive playing environment suitable for all teams and players. 

The format follows a progressive structure, leading teams to compete at an inclusive Finals Day based on levels of skill and development for each participating team.

In the Boys’ competition, clubs participate at U18, U16 and U15 levels, whilst the Girls’ competition see clubs participate at U18 and U16 levels.

28 clubs entered teams into this year’s competition including: Aberdeen Wanderers, Angus, Caithness, Carnoustie, Deeside, Dundee, Dunfermline, Ellon, Falkirk, Garioch, Glenrothes, Gordonstoun School, Highland, Howe of Fife, Huntly, Kinross, Kirkcaldy, Lochaber, Mackie, Montrose & District, Moray, Orkney, Perthshire, Robert Gordons College, Shetland, Stirling County, Strathendrick and Strathmore.

Aberdeen-based Saltire Energy continues its sponsorship of Scottish Rugby for the third year including its support to the community and school events that run during the season.
