RelyOn Nutec UK eyes technical training expansion to fuel renewable energy transition

RelyOn Nutec UK (RelyOn), leaders in practical and digital training for traditional and renewable energy, has announced the launch of its technical training programmes, backed by £500k of investment in staff, facilities, and equipment. In recognition of the widening energy skills gap and the new skills required to power the energy transition, the launch signals RelyOn’s commitment to the energy industry in expanding its remit across its UK training centres in Aberdeen, Teesside and Liverpool.

The new technical training suite most notably includes Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) courses on Small Bore Tubing (SBT) and Mechanical Joint Integrity (MJI). These programmes are particularly important for increasing efficiency of oil and gas projects, where hydrocarbon leakage reduction is of the upmost importance for maximising output and safety, but will be adaptable to suit the renewables market too.

Focusing more acutely on the energy transition, RelyOn also offer Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training, delivered via a blended approach, across RelyOn’s digital and practical methods. The course is a first step in encouraging new talent in the wind sector, and is designed for complete beginners to experienced candidates who have knowledge of technical systems and want to move into the growing wind sector.

Catherine Liebnitz, Operations Director at RelyOn Nutec UK said of the expansion: “We’re extremely excited to unveil our latest offering. As established safety training providers in the energy and other hazardous industries, expanding into technical training is a natural next step for us.

“The transition will require training and skills development of up to 200,000 workers, and we don’t underestimate the challenge ahead, but we know that with our increased offering we’re able to continue to serve the industry on its journey to net zero.

The new service offering will be led by Technical Training Manager, Gordon Andrew, who joined RelyOn in late 2021. Based in Aberdeen, Gordon has over four decades of experience in the energy industry, having held roles previously at Halliburton and Petrofac Training.

Gordon Andrew, Technical Training Manager at RelyOn Nutec UK commented: “Our expertise in global safety training makes us perfectly placed to deliver these new courses. And with our latest investment in updating our facilities in our UK energy hubs, we can ensure our clients receive the highest standard of technical training, in a location that’s convenient for them.

“We’re looking forward to expanding even further to grow our technical training competency and accommodate increasing needs for training and compliance in our industry.”

RelyOn has invested in new equipment and multi-purpose workspaces to deliver its range of technical courses across the UK. Its centre in Aberdeen has benefitted from new specialist workshops built for both the SBT and MJI course, while a partnership with training group NETA in Teesside will see local delegates benefitting from first-class facilities. RelyOn also has plans to invest into its Liverpool centre as it integrates its recent acquisition, Complete Training Solutions (CTS) into the RelyOn group, with upgrades and improvements planned over the next year.
