Local IT firm announces six figure investment

Dawid Szymaniuk

A leading Aberdeen-based IT firm will invest more than £250,000 in uplevelling its offering to a growing client base.

Over the next three years, Managed Services and Security Provider (MSSP) Alto will invest the money in streamlining products and services with a particular focus on cybersecurity, AI and automation.

Cybersecurity continues to account for more than a third of the company’s overall revenues and the percentage is expected to rise further throughout 2024.  Recognising this, the company has recently become Cyber Essentials Plus certified through the government-based scheme which aims to: “set a strong security baseline and help businesses operate securely online.”

Alto’s investment news comes in the wake of recently published figures which show that three quarters of medium and large UK business and 79% of high-income charities have been subjected to a cyber incident in the past year.  The National Cyber Security Centre continues to highlight the ongoing threat of cyberattack, with ransomware cited as one of the biggest threats to business.

Earlier this year Alto announced that, with monthly project work exceeding £50,000 a month, it is on track to grow its 13-strong team by another three business support and technical personnel before the end of the year.

Founded in 2009 and owned by CEO Bruce Skinner, Alto’s team is based in the North East of Scotland.  The company draws on many decades of in-house experience to deliver products and services of the highest calibre to a growing client base across manufacturing, food, energy services, healthcare and other sectors.  Clients are located throughout the UK and in overseas locations including Spain, France, Denmark, Canada, the USA and the Philippines.

Commenting on Alto’s investment, Cyber Security Engineer Dawid Szymaniuk said: “Whilst products have always been available to help address the issues, they are not always palatable for SMEs and our investment is aimed at simplifying cost and service delivery to bring the correct support within reach of companies of all shapes and sizes.

“Standards, accreditation and certification are often based on an assessment at a single point or points during the year – the bigger issue is maintaining compliance in between.  Our improved suite of tools will give our clients safety and peace of mind all year round, ensuring the work is put in every day to keeping companies safe.”

He added: “Cybersecurity, and technology in general, are fast-paced and ongoing so it’s important that companies are proactive in their approach and place their strategy on an equal footing with the likes of physical health and safety policy planning.”
