East of England's Hydrogen ambitions soar as regional cluster strengthens leadership team with key appointments

Hydrogen East Cluster, launched in May 2023, has made three key appointments to drive the delivery of hydrogen projects in the East of England.

Steve Ross, a former part of the ORE Catapult energy transition team and business lead for the South Wales Industrial Cluster (SWIC) during his time at Costain, will lead on coordinating the cluster and working with the Industry Advisory Group (IAG) to develop core work programs and a regional hydrogen roadmap, as well delivering collaborative workshop sessions for local government and businesses that represent the entire hydrogen value chain.

Anne Haase, Renewable Director at Aquaterra Energy with over 25 years of experience across multiple energy sector segments, has been appointed as Chair of the IAG. Commenting on her appointment, Anne said: "The development of hydrogen is crucial to building a low carbon future. The East of England's hydrogen potential is vast and I'm excited to support and lead the IAG in generating hydrogen projects that will be both locally, nationally and even internationally significant."

Mark Turner, Director of HydroGenus with over three decades experience in the electricity and water utility sector delivering strategy and transformation projects, has been appointed as Vice Chair of the IAG. Commenting on his appointment, Mark said: "I'm pleased to have been appointed as Vice Chair of the IAG. As a company seeking to collaborate with other organisations to bring projects forward that will provide low carbon hydrogen, I feel that HydroGenus is well aligned with the work the cluster will be doing."

The cluster has already attracted members from across multiple industries including Cadent, National Gas, ScottishPower, Greene King, London Stanstead Airport, British Sugar, RWE and LRQA and are building relationships and working with clusters from across the UK, along with landowners and local authorities.

The IAG will work across Transport, Aviation, Agriculture and Hydrogen Infrastructure to build projects and programmes that encompass whole interconnectivity.

Speaking of the development of the cluster, Steve Ross said: "The speed with which Hydrogen East is growing has surprised a lot of hydrogen cynics, but, it proves that there is appetite and demand in the East of England that the cluster can support. Having both Anne and Mark as part of the leadership team within Hydrogen East, we will only go from strength to strength."
