3t Drilling Systems expands in India through ONGC deal

3t Drilling Systems COO Clive Battisby and IDT Head K. Rajendra Babu at the Institute of Drilling Technology

Trailblazing the integration of immersive drilling technology training in India, 3t Drilling Systems has announced a new agreement with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the provision of its simulator technology.

The world-leading drilling and well control simulation technology provider, 3t Drilling Systems, part of global training and digital learning powerhouse 3t, will deliver its cutting-edge DrillSIM:6000 simulator to the Institute of Drilling Technology (IDT) in Dehradun, India for this new deal.

One of India's premier research and development centres, the long-established IDT, an educational institute at the ONGC, provides advanced technical knowledge and training to national and international oil companies. Renowned for its dedication to promoting cost-effective exploration and production activities through continuous R&D, the integration of the DrillSIM:6000 will allow the IDT to deliver comprehensive training for diverse drilling operations.

State-of-the-art in its simulation capabilities, the DrillSIM:6000 is an advanced cyberbase simulator designed for drilling and well control training that provides a dual-chair configuration, a high-resolution video wall, and immersive virtual reality scenarios. Customisable to emulate specific rig types and equipment, the DrillSIM:6000, equipped with capabilities for Drillship, Jackup and Land rig simulations, provides realistic training environments and will be delivered to the IDT in partnership with 3t Drilling Systems’ in-country partner, Siam Services India.

This new contract – which was won after competitive tender and will strengthen 3t’s network of collaborators in South Asia - reinforces 3t Drilling Systems’ commitment to providing advanced training solutions that meet international standards to enhance safety and efficiency throughout drilling operations.

Set for installation in Q4 of 2024, the 3t Drilling Systems team who developed this collaboration are confident that integrating the DrillSIM:6000 will positively impact the future of drilling training at IDT. Recently visiting the ONGC IDT facilities, 3t Drilling Systems COO Clive Battisby met with IDT Head K. Rajendra Babu amongst several project members to discuss and review plans for installation.

Commenting on the deal, Clive said: "It is an honour to collaborate with ONGC IDT in bringing the DrillSIM:6000 to their esteemed institute. This simulator represents the pinnacle of our technological advancements, so we look forward to seeing it enhance the training capabilities at IDT. Our goal is to support IDT in developing a highly skilled workforce equipped with the latest drilling technologies, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient drilling operations. We believe this is a vital first step in achieving that."
